People who know me know that The XX’s self-titled album was at the top of my list for 2009. Even though it’s been out for over a year, the dream-pop masterpiece is still getting attention. Check out this clip here, where Gorillaz treat us all to their version The XX’s mega-hit, “Crystallized”. Real Talk: Gorillaz have beaten the XX at their own game. The Gorillaz version is so spare it makes The XX’s take seem over-produced. The laser-focused attention level of the Gorillaz ensemble serves as a stark juxtaposition to the XX’s feigned disinterest in performing their own music.
